What people are saying about European Coffee Expo…

David Blair, director Beanworks: “For me, it’s definitely one of the best shows I’ve seen this year. It’s a fantastically well-organised event and looks like a grown-up coffee trade show. Pretty much all of the leading brands are here with European-wide brands – it’s not just a UK show, it’s about Europe.

“For us, as a company, it’s about generating great leads – doing coffee business.”

"We're here to look at new machines. We're launching our second site in August/September in Oxfordshire," said husband and wife coffee shop owners, Phil and Stephanie Kingsland of Pierreponts Cafe (pictured right) in Goring-on-Thames. "Our concept is all about good quality, local and sustainably produced food. We bake all our own cakes too, and customers come in and swap their homegrown produce for a free coffee, they bring us everything from apples to walnuts and quince cheese!" The couple, who set up the business three years ago plan to open a third venue later this year too.

 

Dalata Hotel Group’s Michael McCann: “I’ve come to listen to the conference speakers –

I particularly enjoyed Tim Cox’s Costa Express session. It’s interesting to hear where people see the business going in the future.” Dalata is Ireland’s largest hotel operator, with a portfolio of 38 hotels and over 7,350 rooms, and has developed its own Red Bean Roastery with Bewley’s Tea & Coffee, as well as a stand-alone coffee shop concept.

 

“I’m here to see equipment and grinders and understand the ranges available – what’s new and innovative,” said Paul Dugdale from Neptune, specialists in bespoke kitchens and more. “I’m finding this show really easy to navigate and do business at – exhibitions should be all about being able to engage with businesses and have conversations.”

Massud Faquiri, co-founder of Sweet Amsterdam (pictured right), exhibitors of Stroopwaffel said: "We've seen many serious buyers at the show - people wanting to do business, not just here for a free coffee! It's a great size and there are big brand names, both in terms of exhibitors and visitors, from wholesalers, operators to the smaller independents."

“I’m here to learn as much as I can about coffee and the sector,” said Kamlesh Chavda, who has worked in fashion retail market for 26 years and is now looking to open his first café concept. “I’m looking for ideas and to attend the SCA courses and conference sessions.

 

Chris Price, director BEAR: "When you're work hard in the business, it's really good to take time out and spend time together as a team. We had time on the train together travelling down and we're now enjoying the show. This is a well set-up show and a great opportunity to talk business. For us, seeing the exhibitors is as much about reaffirming what we don't want as much as what we do want! We all feel like kids in a candy shop." 

 

 

 

 

 

Mike Wheelhouse, director at Urban Culture said: "It is the quality of the potential clients that are coming through the door. We have spoken to the likes of Costa and John Lewis and there has been a steady footfall."
