Independents join forces to cut costs and create bigger, better business

Two independent operators, Coffee Lab UK and Honey & Harvey, are merging to create one business with nine sites and four new premises in the pipeline for this year.

Behind the merger is a desire to share an investor in both companies, consolidate central resources and reduce costs.

“We have opened eight sites in two years. We try to be sensible and keep our costs down, but this is about taking us to the next level. It’s about sharing ideas and knowledge too,” Alex Donnan of Coffee Lab UK told Coffee Business World.

Coffee Lab UK currently has coffee shops in Winchester, Salisbury, Chichester, Stockbridge, Southampton and Gloucester, whereas Honey & Harvey has two in Suffolk, with an emphasis on high quality, local ingredients.

Four new sites are in the pipeline, including their first in London and a joint venture with English rugby union player Elliot Daly in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire.
