Exhibitor Profile: 3M
3M is to showcase the benefits of using filtered water at European Coffee, Tea & Soft Drinks Expo.
Sam Bennett, marketing leader, Foodservice – West Europe at 3M explains why he was impressed with the first year of the show and decided to exhibit this year.
Why have you decided to exhibit at the European Coffee, Tea & Soft Drinks Expo?
We attended the first event as a visitor this year and were impressed by the number and quality of visitors and, more importantly, how engaged those professionals were. The fact that this show is in a key London venue, solely focused on trade-only businesses and targets the entire hospitality sector were key factors in our decision to sponsor the 2019 Expo.
Why is water filtration so important to the tea and coffee sectors?
Because consistent, high quality water plays such a vital role in food and beverage provision. From the smallest on-the-go coffee shop to the largest quick service restaurant or licensed chain, all providers use mains water in some way in their coffee machines, hot water boilers, ice machines and cold water post-mixes. More baristas are becoming aware of the affect water filtration can have on the finished taste of their drinks; however, ensuring that each cup of coffee tastes as good as the last can be a challenge, due to the varying water qualities arising from geographical location.
What do you see as the key current opportunities and challenges for the sector right now?
With so much choice available to them in the food service arena, consumers vote with their feet, putting continued pressure on operators to deliver – day in, day-out. An area that is often overlooked by providers is the impact that their mains water supply has on the end product and ultimately their brand reputation. Depending on the disinfection chemicals used by the water provider and the outlet’s geographical location, a wide range of taste, odour and scale issues can be experienced. To ensure the consistency of carbonated drinks, ice, coffee, tea and other hot or cold beverages, it is therefore essential that the water is filtered appropriately.
What can visitors at the show expect to see from 3M at the show?
At the show, 3M Water Filtration Systems will enable visitors to taste the benefits of filtered water. Due to the key role that water filtration plays in the preparation of coffee, tea and soft drinks, 3M will not only be providing water fountains around the show for visitors but there will also be a free 3M Refill Station for exhibitors needing to replenish their water supplies. This way everyone at the European Coffee, Tea and Soft Drinks Expo will have the opportunity to experience the taste, odour and scale benefits of high quality, filtered water.
What are the future plans for 3M?
To reduce the taste and odour of disinfectant chemicals, protect equipment and ensure a consistent high standard of water quality for hot and cold drinks, 3M has created a range of filtration solutions. Further advances in premium carbon block technology for contaminant reduction will continue to be incorporated into the 3M product portfolio in 2019.
